Podcasting without the iPod is.. casting?

Oh, Tumblr, I’m so sorry I haven’t been keeping up with you. Life has been insanely busy/stressful for me lately.

I used to keep up with a podcast called The David Stein Show, which is on local radio station 670 The Score (WSCR) from 2am to 6am. Naturally, I was never able to listen to it live, because bedtime for me is usually right when it’s starting. So I would have to download the daily podcast, which came in 12 segments.

The David Stein Show is all about “Celebrating Life Through Sports.” What that means is that Stein picks a topic for the night, which the caller has to relate to after saying what the best thing in their life is at that moment. The last show I listened to was about a guy in NASCAR who ran out onto the track to follow a tire that had rolled out of the pit. He was trying to prevent an accident but ended up halting the entire race.

I remember Stein expressing his empathy for this poor dude who got crap from everyone (media, other drivers, crazed NASCAR fans) for interrupting the race. Because everyone’s done something stupid in their life. So Stein asked people to call in with the dumbest thing they ever did that at the time seemed like a good idea.

I’m really not a fan of NASCAR at all, but that’s not what the show is about. People were calling in, saying, “Yeah, I know what it feels like to do something dumb,  I did _____ recently.” And just so there’s no negativity, Stein always asks about something great in the caller’s life. And it’s always good, and it always makes me smile. I know I can’t be the only one. It just makes me appreciate life, you know, like the show says. A celebration of life through sports.

Other people listen to This American Life, which is great, but The David Stein Show has a much more special place in my heart.
